Abbas - Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
(And guard yourselves against a day), and if you do not believe and repent of Judaism, then fear the torment of a day (when no soul will in anything avail another), no unbelieving soul will avail another unbelieving soul, (nor will intercession be accepted from it) and no intercessor will be allowed to intercede, (nor will compensation be received from it) and no ransom accepted, (neither will they be helped) to avoid Allah's chastisement.
and fear, be scared of, the day when no soul for another shall give satisfaction, which is the Day of Resurrection, and no intercession shall be accepted (read either tuqbal or yuqbal) from it, that is, it is not the case that it has power to intercede, for it then to be accepted from it [or rejected, as God says], So now we have no intercessors [Q. 26:100]; nor any compensation, ransom, be taken, neither shall they be helped, to avoid God’s chastisement.
and fear the day when, that is, when the attribute of [divine] overwhelming power discloses itself, no soul for another shall give satisfaction, none shall avail [another], because no one will have that power, and no intercession shall be accepted from it, because there will be no intercession or assistance, since they shall all be deprived of attributes and acts, as [the poet] says: 'Nor do you see the lizard slip into its burrow then'; nor any compensation be taken, that is, [no] ransom, since no one will have any possessions, neither shall they be helped, because no one other than Him, exalted be He, will have power and [the power to] provide assistance.
(Verily, those who disbelieve, if they had all that is in the earth, and as much again therewith to ransom themselves from the torment on the Day of Resurrection, it would never be accepted of them, and theirs would be a painful torment) (5:36)
وَإِن تَعْدِلْ كُلَّ عَدْلٍ لاَّ يُؤْخَذْ مِنْهَآ
(And even if he offers every ransom, it will not be accepted from him) (6:70) and,
(So this Day no ransom shall be taken from you (hypocrites), nor of those who disbelieved. Your abode is the Fire. That is your Mawla (friend ـ proper place)) (57:15).
Allah stated that if the people do not believe in His Messenger and follow what He sent him with, then when they meet Him on the Day of Resurrection, after remaining on the path of disbelief, their family lineage and/or the intercession of their masters will not help them at all. It will not be accepted of them, even if they paid the earth's fill of gold as ransom. Similarly, Allah said,
(Before a Day comes when there will be no bargaining, nor friendship, nor intercession) (2:254) and,
لاَّ بَيْعٌ فِيهِ وَلاَ خِلَـلٌ
(On which there will be neither mutual bargaining nor befriending) (19:31). Allah's statement next,
وَلاَ هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ
(nor will they be helped.) means, "no person shall get angry - or anxious - on their behalf and offer them any help, or try to save them from Allah's punishment.'' As stated earlier on that Day, neither the relative, nor persons of authority will feel pity for the disbelievers, nor will any ransom be accepted for them. Consequently, they will receive no help from others and they will be helpless themsleves. Allah said,
وَهُوَ يُجْيِرُ وَلاَ يُجَارُ عَلَيْهِ
(While He (Allah) grants refuge (or protection), but none grants refuge from Him) (23:88)
(Then why did those whom they had taken for alihah (gods) besides Allah, as a way of approach (to Allah) not help them Nay, but they vanished completely from them) (46:28).
Also, Ad-Dahhak said that Ibn `Abbas said that Allah's statement,
مَا لَكُمْ لاَ تَنَـصَرُونَ
("What is the matter with you Why do you not help one another'') (37:25) means, "This Day, you shall not have a refuge from Us. Not this Day.'' Ibn Jarir said that Allah's statement,
وَلاَ هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ
(nor will they be helped.) meaning, on that Day, they shall neither be helped by any helper, nor shall anyone intercede on their behalf. No repeal or ransom will be accepted for them, all courtesy towards them will have ceased, along with any helpful intercession. No type of help or cooperation will be available for them on that Day. The judgment will, on that Day, be up to the Most Great, the Most Just, against whom no intercessor or helper can ever assist. He will then award the evil deed its kind and will multiply the good deeds. This is similar to Allah's statement,
(But stop them, verily, they are to be questioned. "What is the matter with you Why do you not help one another'' Nay, but that Day they shall surrender) (37:24-26).
Maududi - Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi - Tafhim al-Qur'an
It refers to the period when the Israelites were the only people in the world who possessed the knowledge of the Truth from Allah and were, therefore, made leaders of the people of the world and were required to invite all other nations to His submission and to guide them on the Right Way.
In this verse the Israelites have been warned to guard against their wrong notion about the Hereafter, for this was the main cause of their degeneration. They were under the delusion that they would win salvation just because they were the descendants of great Prophets and had relations with great saints and pious and righteous people. That is why they neglected we religion and involved themselves in sin. Here they are being disillusioned and warned that they will not escape the consequences of their evil deeds by virtue of their relation with some holy person or his intercession in their behalf. That is why immediately after reminding them of the favour (v. 47) they have been warned that they shall be punished like the guilty people who lived in this world without belief in the Hereafter.
and fear the day when no soul for another shall give satisfaction and no intercession shall be accepted from it; nor any compensation ʿadl be taken neither shall they be helped. He causes fear in ordinary people by His acts for He said fear the day and fear the fire [2:24 3:131]. But He causes fear in the elect by His attributes for He said And say: “Act for God will surely see your actions and [so will] His Messenger” [9:105] and He said And you are not occupied with any business... but We are witnesses over you when you are engaged therein [10:61]. He causes fear in the elect of the elect by Himself for He said God warns you of His Self [3:28 3:30]. [The word] “compensation” ʿadl [here] means “ransom” fidāÌ. On the Day of the Resurrection no intercession will be heard except for the one whom the Real has commanded to intercede for Him. He has permitted it and He in actuality is the greatest intercessor even though the term “intercessor” is not applied to Him because it is without [divine] instruction tawqīf.133 It is said about it: Praise be to God in gratitude for everything good is with Him. The lover has become my intercessor to my intercessor to Him. The intercession of intercessors will not benefit those who have been hit by the calamity of fate. There will be no helpers for them nor ransom accepted from them even if they had the fill of the heavens and earths
…and no intercession shall be accepted from it [the soul], nor shall compensation be taken, neither shall they be helped. When asked about these words Sahl said:It means that even if it [the soul] were to bring the sum of all good actions great and small, in abundance or just a few, none of this will be accepted from it on its arrival on the Day of Resurrection, nor anything from him [the servant]. Compensation (ʿadl) here means equivalence[or like, mathal]. Do you not note His words: Or its compensation in fasts [5:95] — that is, its equivalence and reward?
